Dear Friends,

Where did 2007 go? It flew by at Boalt, probably because everyone was so busy. Our clinics are busy having real-world impacts with their work. And workers were busy refurbishing our three main lecture halls. Meanwhile, our dean received a special honor. And our Partners in Leadership annual campaign kicked off. Hopefully, there's enough news here to tide you over until February. We don't publish eNews in January. So enjoy your holidays, and we'll see you in 2008!

A new report by Boalt's International Human Rights Law Clinic received an enthusiastic reception at a meeting last month of 100 community activists, researchers and attorneys in Fresno. The report analyzes how advocates can use international human rights institutions, standards, and advocacy techniques to address polluted drinking water, substandard housing, and barriers to political participation in unincorporated communities in California's San Joaquin Valley.

Death Penalty Clinic Assumes Leadership Role in Lethal Injection Litigation
Lethal injection and how it's administered as a penalty is before the U.S. Supreme Court. Boalt Hall’s Death Penalty Clinic has surged to the forefront on this issue, becoming a hub of valuable information for lawyers, journalists, and the public.

A Unique Giving Opportunity
For the first time since 1951, the three main lecture halls in the law school have undergone a major renovation that includes all new chairs and beautifully refurbished desks. As a thank you to our donors who make a new gift* at the $2,500 or $10,000 level, we’d like to invite you to become a special part of Boalt Hall. Partners in Leadership 2007-08 Campaign Begins!
Last month was the 2007-08 Partners in Leadership annual campaign kick off. The Partners program challenges law firms and organizations with five or more Boalt grads to achieve 100% giving among the alumni at the firm. Each year since the program’s inception, the number of participating firms has grown, said Yury Kapgan ’01, Chair of this year’s Partners campaign. . Last year, over 50 firms and corporations, lead by 100 firm captain volunteers and representing over 1,000 alumni, participated in supporting Boalt with $2.3million dollars. "It's all part of an effort to keep Boalt producing the best lawyers in the country,” said Kapgan, an intellectual property lawyer in Los Angeles. For more information, go here.
