Alumni

Boalt Hall alumni are recognized throughout the world for their professional and civic leadership, exemplifying the positive difference a Boalt legal education makes. Many have dedicated themselves to public service in local, state and federal government positions, and some have served as governors, senators, cabinet members and judges. Boalt graduates also hold top-level positions in major law firms, public interest organizations, corporations and academia. Among the law school's more than 12,000 alumni are such luminaries as U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren, Secretary of State Dean Rusk and California Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Traynor.

Through their participation in law school activities and programs, often organized under the auspices of the Boalt Hall Alumni Association (BHAA), alumni play an integral role in fostering the law school's intellectual vitality and strengthening key relationships among alumni, faculty and students. Graduates frequently return to campus as faculty members, guest lecturers and moot court judges. They serve on various advisory committees at the request of the dean and provide important perspectives and expertise to help meet the school's critical needs. Proud of their alma mater and engaged in securing its future development, they also provide generous financial support to sustain the school's tradition of academic excellence. Moreover, Boalt Hall's alumni enhance the quality of student life, assisting with student recruitment, providing scholarship support, hosting social events, and serving as career mentors and advisors.

Enrollment in Boalt Hall is tantamount to lifetime membership in a vibrant intellectual and professional community that adheres to the highest standards of academic achievement and public service. The BHAA maintains and enhances the relationship between alumni and the law school, and considers students to be young alumni.

Choosing to attend Boalt Hall is not simply about becoming a law student for three years, it is also about becoming part of a community that challenges and enriches all of its members. Students benefit from the involvement of alumni who invest time, energy and resources into the school. This interaction between students and alumni helps create an intellectually dynamic law school experience, complete with exciting career possibilities and enhanced opportunities for personal growth. In turn, students become alumni whose generous and loyal contributions to the Boalt community ensure the same for future generations.
