Student Services

At Boalt Hall, the dean of students is available for academic, financial and personal advising and counseling. Students are encouraged to meet with the dean of students and her staff to discuss academic plans, questions about the profession, personal concerns, summer activities and other matters. Students are welcome to schedule appointments or stop by on a drop-in basis.

In addition to working with individual students, the dean of students and her staff interface with the Boalt Hall Student Association and all the student organizations, supporting their social and community activities. Special funding is made available, with prior application and approval, for special events such as conferences, workshops and community-building social occasions.

University Student Services

Child Care Program
The on-campus Child Care Program, which is available to all registered full-time Berkeley students, provides care for children ages 3 months to 8 years. Fees are based on a sliding scale. For more information, call 510-642-1827 or visit the program’s website at www.housing.berkeley.edu/child. In addition, the UC Berkeley Parents Network is a great resource for student parents: http://parents.berkeley.edu.

Counseling Services
The Tang Center provides a variety of services for Berkeley students, including career, personal and crisis counseling; testing services; career information; and group counseling. For more information, call 510-642-9494 or visit the website at www.uhs.berkeley.edu/students/counseling/index.shtml.

Disabled Students Program
Berkeley students with disabilities can receive academic support services (such as readers, note takers or sign language interpreters), attendant referral and housing assistance. Many other services are available, and most are free. For more information, call 510-642-0518 or TTY 510-642-6376 or visit the website at www.dsp.berkeley.edu.

University Health Insurance Plan
All students must carry major medical health insurance while attending Berkeley, including the law school. Students are automatically enrolled in the university’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and are charged a health insurance fee as part of registration. Students covered by other health insurance plans may choose not to use SHIP if they can show their coverage is comparable. For more information, call 510-642-5700 or visit the website at www.uhs.berkeley.edu/students/insurance/index.shtml.

University Health Service
The University Health Service provides students with comprehensive medical care, counseling, insurance and health education. Services include visits to physicians, nurse practitioners, specialists and specialty clinics; health education; counseling; a pharmacy; physical therapy; and basic laboratory tests and x-rays. Most services are subsidized by student registration fees, so the direct cost to students is modest. For more information, call 510-642-2000 or visit the website at www.uhs.berkeley.edu.

Housing
