Specialized Curricular Programs

The Advanced Law Degree Programs seeks to integrate law students from around the world, at various levels of study. Other than courses specifically designed for international LL.M. students, candidates for both advanced law degrees satisfy course requirements by enrolling in courses and seminars from among those offered to law students pursuing the J.D. degree.

Fall/Spring LL.M. Required Courses for International Students:

  • Introduction to U.S. Law (one unit) - offered during the week just prior to Fall semester
  • Topics in American Law (two units) - Fall semester
  • Legal Research and Writing (one unit; coursework-track students only) - Fall semester

Summer LL.M. Required Courses for International Students:

  • Introduction to U.S. Law/Topics in American Law (3 units) - initial summer term
  • Legal Writing and Research (1 units) - initial summer term
  • Contracts (3 units) - initial summer term
  • Constitutional Law (3 units) - second summer term
  • Civil Litigation (3 units) - second summer term
  • Legal Profession (3 units) - second summer term
  • Summer LL.M. program elective courses

Berkeley Law offers a curriculum rich in traditional law subjects as well as emerging, cutting edge fields. A sample of commonly offered courses is listed below.
