Parking and Transportation

Boalt-Specific Parking

Special Parking Permits for Boalt
Boalt offers special parking permits for those rare but special work-related circumstances when a parking pass is needed by an employee for the day, or for a short period of time to load or unload materials. Guest passes are also available for bona fide guests of the University.

Attendant Parking
Many University parking lots, including the one behind Boalt, have attendant parking to accommodate the high demand. When all marked spaces are full, the attendant will direct you to park in an unmarked space. Please do not park your vehicle in an unmarked space unless an attendant directs you to do so. After parking your vehicle, bring your key to the attendant. You will be given a claim ticket in exchange for your key, and the matching stub will be placed underneath your windshield wiper.

To claim your vehicle before 6 PM, return to your lot and give your key claim ticket to the attendant. After 6 PM, go to the UC Police Department in the basement of Sproul Hall.

Personal Parking and Transportation

Parking Permits and Prices
Campus parking permits do not guarantee a parking space, but they do allow permit-holders access to park in the designated campus parking lots. You will also receive an annual Bear Transit Pass (good for campus shuttles) upon request when you purchase your parking permit.

New Directions Program (Alternative Transportation Travel Discounts)
The New Directions program promotes the use of alternative transportation by offering carpool parking discounts, emergency rides home, and discount transit tickets for faculty and staff. Among the benefits of the program are $4/day parking permits, $10/month transit subsidy for the purchase of AC Transit or BART tickets, and purchasing BART and AC Transit tickets through a pretax payroll deduction. Visit the New Directions webpage for more information about this program.

City CarShare
The nonprofit City CarShare is adding two Cal-based cars to its Bay Area fleet for UC Berkeley faculty, students and staff who want the occasional use of a car without the expense or waste of owning one. CarShare members can reserve the cars -- for an hour, an afternoon or a day -- by computer or phone, and then pay only hourly usage and mileage charges. Membership requires a $300 refundable deposit (waived for students) and a $30 application fee. Visit the City CarShare webpage for more information.
