Samuelson Clinic Submitted Comment to U.S. Copyright Office on behalf of Edward Felten and J. Alex Halderman

Type: Clinical Project, Comments
Year: 2005

The Samuelson Clinic submitted a comment to the U.S. Copyright Office on behalf of computer scientists Edward Felten and J. Alex Halderman, both of Princeton University. In their Comment, Professor Felten and Mr. Halderman requested an exemption to the Digital Millenium Copyright Act that would permit circumvention of technological measures protecting sound recordings and audiovisual works on compact discs that impede access to lawfully purchased works by creating or exploiting security vulnerabilities that compromise the security of personal computers. The Comment was submitted as part of the Copyright Office’s periodic rulemaking proceeding in which the Office considers whether to exempt certain classes of works from the prohibition against circumvention of technological measures that control access to copyrighted works.
