Disability Law Society Hosts Conference

What: "The Changing Face of Disability Law in the New Millennium," a conference exploring the evolving laws and emerging issues that define the status of disability rights in American society.

Organized by the Boalt Disability Law Society, the conference will feature panel discussions addressing pressing legal issues affecting disability rights. Topics include equality in education, access to healthcare, developing technologies, strategies for community activism, and the effects of recent court rulings on current litigation tactics.

Opening dinner with keynote speaker Arlene Mayerson, director of the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund.

Panel discussions

Discussions feature more than 20 panelists, including Jacquelyn Brand, founder of the Alliance for Technology Access, who will address access to communication and information technologies for the disabled; Laura A. Heymann, senior counsel for America Online Inc., who will discuss sensitivity to disability issues from the Internet service provider's point of view; and Jan Garrett, executive director of the Center for Independent Living in Berkeley and Oakland, who will offer strategies for advocating change in the community.
Thursday's dinner is not open to the public.
