Mary Robinson, Chair, Realizing Rights: The Ethicial Globalization Initiative

As former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the former President of Ireland,
Mary Robinson is internationally recognized for her contributions to promoting human rights. Robinson’s
current work focuses on fostering equitable trade, promoting the right to health, working to strengthen
womens’ leadership, and encouraging corporate responsibility.  She will speak at Boalt Hall on April 29, 2009 on the Human Rights issues surrounding Global Health concerns.

Pascal Lamy, Director-General World Trade Organization

Mr. Lamy, the first Miller Distinguished Lecturer, has served as the Director-General of the WTO since 2005. Previously the Trade Commissioner of the European Union in Brussels, Mr. Lamy has also served as Chief of Cabinet to the President of the European Commission, a political advisor to the Economics and Finance Minister and the Prime Minister of France, and as President of Notre Europe, a think tank working on European integration. His speech, The Case for Trade: Why the Multilateral Trading System is More Important Than Ever for the U.S. was delivered to a large audience of enthusiastic students and other community members eager to hear the Director-General's view of the growing world economic downturn.  The lecture was held in Booth Auditorium at Boalt Hall on October 29, 2008 and along with the Miller Institute was co-sponsored by the Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economy (BRIE), the California Center for Environmental Law & Policy (CCELP), and the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS).
