The Honorable John True
The Honorable John True '75 serves on the Alameda County Superior Court. Prior to his judicial appointmenthe was a partner in the Oakland office of Leonard Cartder, LLP, and spent approximately 27 years practicing labor and employment law in the San Francisco Bay area.
After graduating from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley in 1975, John spent three and a half years with the National Labor Relations Board as a field attorney in its San Francisco and Oakland, California offices. He was then in private practice with the firm of True, Wetzel, Colton & Fouts from 1979 through 1985. In 1985 he joined the Employment Law Center of the San Francisco Legal Aid Society as a
Senior Staff Attorney. In January, 1994 he left the Employment Law Center to join Rudy & Zieff as Special Counsel. On October 1, 1995, the firm became Rudy, Exelrod, Zieff & True. On October 1, 2000, John joined the Leonard, Carder firm. In addition to his representation of plaintiffs in employment law matters, John is a neutral. He serves as a mediator and arbitrator for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and as an evaluator in the Northern District's Early Neutral Evaluation Program. He is also a panelist in the Bar Association of San Francisco's Early Settlement Program. Additionally, he is a member of the American Arbitration Association's panel of arbitrators and mediators for Northern California. John is the former Chair of the California State Bar Labor Employment Law Section and the past chair of the Northern District of California's Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Group. He is a frequent writer and speaker on labor and employment law topics.
