Phoebe is a new system launched by the Sponsored Projects Office to streamline the proposal routing and approval process for UC Berkeley Principal Investigators. Phoebe is web-based, allowing the Principal Investigator and the Dean to review and approve Berkeley Law proposals from anywhere - 24/7/365 - and to route them electronically to the Sponsored Projects Office for the required University endorsement. Phoebe replaces the hardcopy Proposal Review Form and eliminates the need to deliver hardcopy proposal packets across town to the Sponsored Projects Office.
Berkeley Law proposals can be developed, saved, edited, canceled, copied, shared, reviewed, routed for approval, submitted and subsequently revised online, via Phoebe. Phoebe maintains a log of all activity on a proposal and offers an optional validation feature that identifies errors and/or incomplete information that will prevent a successful submission. Phoebe serves as the official record of a proposal, eliminating the need for paper record-keeping in the department.
Phoebe will be used primarily by the Berkeley Law Contracts/Grants Specialist who creates and completes each Berkeley Law proposal record. Principal Investigators will use Phoebe to review completed proposals and route them electronically to the Dean for departmental approval. The Dean will receive an immediate automated email alert - with a convenient link to each pending proposal in Phoebe – and the approval action will automatically route proposals to the Sponsored Projects Office or the Industry Alliances Office for endorsement and subsequent submission to the sponsor.
