JULIE FRECCERO is the Program Officer for the Sexual Violence Program. Her research and writing at the Center focus on protection and accountability measures for sexual and gender-based violence in areas affected by conflict. Previously, Julie was the Program Officer for Violence against Women at UNIFEM in Tanzania, where she managed the agency’s research and advocacy initiatives to improve protection and support services for survivors. She also planned and evaluated jail-based health programs and reentry services available to individuals incarcerated on Rikers Island for the New York City Department of Correction. Julie’s public health research and practice focus on gender-based violence and women’s empowerment, refugee and migrant health issues, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. Julie has conducted research in Cambodia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and along the Thailand-Burma border. She holds a M.P.H. in Health and Social Behavior from UC Berkeley.
