Transportation from Bay Area Airports

If you intend to arrive in the San Francisco Bay Area by air, consider flying into Oakland rather than San Francisco. The Oakland International Airport (OAK) is smaller and easier to manage than San Francisco International (SFO)—and it is closer to Berkeley.

Both airports have information desks and extensive websites:

San Francisco International: http://www.flysfo.com/

SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT TO BERKELEY

If you arrive at the San Francisco International Airport, the least expensive means of transportation to Berkeley is mass transit. For domestic flights, take the Red AirTrain line to the SFO BART station. From the station, you can board a Richmond-bound train to the Downtown Berkeley station. If you arrive in the evening or on a Sunday, you must take the Pittsburg/Bay Point train instead, then transfer at the MacArthur BART station to a Richmond-bound train and exit at the Berkeley station. For detailed information about public transportation, visit the Bay Area Transit Information website.

Airport Shuttles

If you have a lot of luggage, you might prefer to take a door-to-door shuttle van, which will pick you up at the airport and drop you off wherever you want in Berkeley. For more information about airport transportation costs, see the chart or visit the airport websites.

Directions from BART

If you're coming to campus via BART, get off at the Berkeley Station (also known as the "Downtown Berkeley" station) along the Richmond line; it drops you off one block from the west side of campus. From nearby Shattuck and Addison Streets, you can catch a BearTransit shuttle, which will let you off along the perimeter of campus, including near the Law School. On average, this shuttle departs every fifteen minutes. For more information on using BART, visit www.bart.gov

Alternatively, you can take the AC Transit Bus lines 1 or 51B that drop you off along the south edge of campus, including a stop near the Law School.

For those who enjoy walking, the west entrance to the Berkeley campus is only one block away from the Downtown Berkeley BART Station. The Law School is on the far side of the campus, about a 15-20 minute walk.
