Description: Laura Nader is Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley, where she has served on the faculty since 1960. A founder of the field of law and society, Professor Nader is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the 1995 winner of the Kalven Prize recognizing a body of empirical scholarship that has contributed to the advancement of research in law and society. Her work has had an indelible impact in many areas including the comparative ethnography of law and dispute resolution, conflict, comparative family organization, the anthropology of professional mindsets and ethnology of the Middle East, Mexico, Latin America and the contemporary United States.
